Port Phillip City Collection

Welcome to the Port Phillip City Collection

The Collection reflects the development of the City of Port Phillip, which was established by the 1994 amalgamation of three of Melbourne's earliest municipalities: South Melbourne (est. 1855), St Kilda (est. 1857) and Port Melbourne (est. 1860).

The Port Phillip City Collection consists of two major categories:

Heritage Collection
The Heritage Collection includes photographs, maps, plans, objects and ephemera which date from 1855 onwards.  The items are specifically relevant to the history of the City of Port Phillip and Council related activities.
Visual Arts Collection
The Visual Arts Collection includes historic artworks, dating from the mid 1850s onwards, and the Contemporary Art Collection which was established in 1980.  The Contemporary Art Collection is distinguished by works in a range of media from nationally recognised artists who have been associated with, or inspired by, the City of Port Phillip area.
