SKYS delivers a range specialised programs for disadvantaged or at-risk youth within the City of Port Phillip and neighbouring areas.

Clients of SKYS may be homeless, offenders, subject to protective orders by the State, disengaged from mainstream education institutions or suffer drug and alcohol difficulties.

Programs are conducted at either group level or on a one-to-one basis where intensive support is required for such issues as poverty, lack of self-esteem, education, abuse or family breakdown.

SKYS conducts its range of programs within local schools, other local venues or at either its St. Kilda office or Port Melbourne Training Centre.

Services include:

  • Training and employment programs
  • Media Services – Social Enterprise training youth

2Faze

2FAZE is an alternative to mainstream school education and was developed out of a need for flexible and relevant learning options for young people. The program allows young people to build on their academic skills while also exercising their creative and practical talents is a supportive community environment.

2faze combines the best of the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL), Vocational Education and Training (VET) and the Certificate of General Education for Adults (CGEA) in a supportive environment.  2 faze incorporates programs for your mums.

Jobs Services Australia

SKYS delivers JSA in partnership with Melbourne City Mission (MCM). JSA replaces previous employment services such as Job Network, JPET and PSP and provides new opportunities for Australians to receive personalised employment services.

The partnership with MCM has enabled SKYS to have a smooth transition; we have also been able to be true to SKYS vision of working with young people in order for them to achieve their potential.

HEAT (Hospitality Employment and Training) 

HEAT (Hospitality Employment and Training) is a practical youth re-engagement program. It is an innovative and practical program that assists young people in developing self-esteem; gaining accredited training qualifications in the hospitality industry, work experience in local businesses and preparation for the world of work.

SKYS delivers the HEAT program in partnership with the City of Port Phillip, Victoria Police, Inner Eastern Local Learning and Employment Network, William Angliss Institute of TAFE and Republica Restaurant. HEAT operates in an informal learning environment and is designed to dramatically improve the lives of young people who are disengaged from mainstream education.

HEAT is for young people aged between 16 and 20 years who are currently unemployed or not in education or training. Students graduate with a Certificate 2 in Hospitality Operations.

SAAP

The Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) is a joint Commonwealth / State funded program designed to assist people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.  Broadly, the program aims to provide transitional supported accommodation and related support services to help homeless people achieve the maximum degree of self0reliance and independence.

Blue SKYS Media

Blue SKYS Media is an exciting social enterprise for SKYS and a natural extension from the media work of the past six years. Blue SKYS Media emerged out of collaboration between St Kilda Youth Service and Blue Lava, an independent media education company. The focus is on the intermediate labour market. Young people aged between 16-20 years will gain their Certificate IV in Print and Graphic Arts (Multimedia), as well as their Senior VCAL. In addition young people will be employed for 7-13 hours paid work experience. After finishing their Certificate IV students will receive ongoing support to find work and or further education.

Inner Eastern Local Employment Network (IELLEN)

A Local Learning and Employment Network (LLEN) brings together local education providers, local employers, local councils and other interested people in their community to develop education and training pathways for local young people, especially those at risk of dropping out.

JobSupply Personnel (JSP)

JSP is a specialist vocational service that assists people with a mental illness. Assistance is tailored to individual needs and may cover all or parts of:

  • Career identification, choice or exploration
  • Resume construction, job application and job seeking strategies
  • Assistance in regard to individual rights in relation to work
  • Jobs in jeopardy assistance and employer assistance
  • On and off the job support, which is generally provided for a six months period and may be ongoing where required.

Youth Connect

Youth Connect works with the community to provide all young people with the skills and knowledge to support them to manage a successful pathway through secondary education, further learning and employment. Engaging with industry, Youth Connect builds mutually beneficial relationships which support employers to attract and retain young people. Youth Connect staff work in partnership with a wide range of local organisations and individuals to deliver a number of programmes and services that assist: young people, parents, employers and industry, schools and other education providers and the community. Youth Connect is a not-for-profit, community focused organisation that has offered assistance to young people in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne for over fifteen years.

First Stop

First Stop is a free service that helps young people make decisions about further education, training and employment pathways. First Stop acts as the first point of contact for young people who require assistance and information about the options in training and education available to them. Providing personalised assistance to meet individual needs, First Stop is a youth-friendly careers and pathways resource centre. With regular up to date information on training and career options, First Stop caters to the needs of young people as well as referring them to other support services.First Stop has services based at Croydon, Wantirna and Prahran campuses.

Inner Melbourne VET Cluster

The IMVC is a not for profit incorporated association established in 1998 to broker vocational programs for secondary schools in the Inner Melbourne region.
