However, the continued low rainfall and water restrictions has had an impact on all of our city's trees. So, what can you do to help nurture our city's outdoor environment? Adopt a street tree! 

Your street tree will benefit greatly from regular watering. To conserve water resources collect water used for washing dishes, clothes and yourself and apply it to your street tree.  Don't use drinking water!  Grey water is a great alternative and is safe for the trees and your garden.  Grey water comes from washing machines, bathtubs and kitchen sinks.

Any extra water put onto street trees is a bonus it will help them survive the harsh summer months.

The council's street tree watering program focuses on establishing new trees - watering them twice a week throughout spring and summer for the first two years until they are established.

Weeds compete with tree roots for nutrients and water, so pull the weeds out! Applying mulch at the base of a tree will help retain water. 

Council has a contractor to prune, mulch, remove and plant trees.  But you can help maintain the health of your tree by ensuring not to damage the bark and if you see any pests, disease or broken branches give us a call and we will take a look.

Trees sometimes fall victim to malicious acts of vandalism if you witness any tree being damaged please report it.
