What is the Inner Melbourne Action Plan (IMAP)?

The Inner Melbourne Action Plan is an agreed plan of actions by Melbourne's inner regional councils, including Port Phillip, Yarra, Melbourne and Stonnington (west of Kooyong Road), with the objective of 'Making Melbourne more liveable'.

It will do this by pursuing over 50 actions across 11 strategies. One action in the Plan is to improving the clarity and connectivity of on-road and off-road cycling paths and lanes.

What is it doing about bicycle routes?

Each IMAP partner is keen to provide clear bicycle routes; all have strategies or programs in place to progressively achieve this but each is at a different stage of design and delivery. This regional project aims to make signage more consistent, and to make the bicycle network clear. The bicycle network includes: the 'Principal Bicycle Network', 'Metropolitan Trail Network' and local area links.

Overall, IMAP will strive to effectively link transport routes so that the Inner Melbourne Region is accessible throughout by walking, cycling and public transport.

The strengthening of pedestrian, cycling and public transport links across the Inner Region has important benefits for regional tourism, transport and activity centres and are a key priority to ensure the achievement of a well-connected transport and recreational environment and a truly sustainable future.
