The City of Port Phillip Social Support and Recreation Access (SSARA) worker assists residents of the City of Port Phillip who are over 55 years and have difficulty getting out to access & identify suitable activities. The SSARA worker provides advice and practical assistance to do or decide what you would like to do.

Residents of pension only supported residential services can access the service at any age. Older people who are frail, or who have significant health, mental health or memory problems, or physical or intellectual disabilities, are eligible for the service.

The SSARA worker also helps recreation providers modify their activities, or develop new ones which are more accessible for people who have difficulty getting out and about.

The service provides great up to date information on what's going on in the City of Port Phillip, activities such as:

  • huge range of inclusive and accessible social and activity groups
  • exercise, health & wellbeing opportunities - including those suitable for frail older people or those sith significant health issues
  • arts and performance groups - friendly, low cost, inclusive and fun
  • sports - including modified
  • music - singing, concerts, gigs
  • adult learning opportunities - small groups and 1:1
  • special events - free or very low cost, neighbourhood activities, accessible
