W3C AA compliance
The City of Port Phillip Internet site has been designed and developed to ensure that its content is available to all users, regardless of the use of assistive technologies or of the existence of personal disabilities.
W3C AA accessibility means that:
All people can access the information. Satisfying this checkpoint will remove significant barriers for some people to accessing websites.
In January 2002, Gian Sampson-Wild from Stanley & Milford and a member of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines Working Group, reviewed the City of Port Phillip site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. As at January 2002 all pages in the site met all the requirements to claim conformance with these level AA guidelines.
In August 2004, the City of Port Phillip Internet site was audited by Gian Sampson-Wild of Purple Top to ensure ongoing Accessibility compliance. The website is currently undergoing system upgrades to make our site compliant with level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (Version 1.0) (www.w3.org/TR/1999/WAI-WEBCONTENT-19990505) written by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Expected completion of system upgrades is November 2006.
The accessibilty audit is part of council's commitment to the Disability Action Plan.
