Would you like to perform at one of Australia’s best known festivals? Here’s your chance. Entries for the 2012 St Kilda Festival open on Thursday 1 September 2011.

Whether you are a band or solo musician, a children’s entertainer, community group, stall holder, trader or have an event or activity that you’d like to showcase then now’s the time to apply.

Festival Producer, Adele Denison says “There's no summer tradition in Melbourne like the St Kilda Festival and this is everyone's chance to get involved. We're on the look out for musicians, performers, stallholders, events and community groups to join in the celebration that will be the 2012 St Kilda Festival.”

Since its inception in 1980, the St Kilda Festival has evolved from a two day street party to a nine day event, spanning various venues and locations across the entire St Kilda precinct. The Festival kicks off on Saturday 4 February with a showcase of music from Australia’s leading Indigenous artists as part of Yalukit Willam Ngargee: People Place Gathering - a welcoming event by and for the local Indigenous community. This is followed by an eight day program of Live N Local music, visual arts, street performance, film, poetry and comedy from 5-11 February. The Festival culminates on Festival Sunday 12 February where festival goers of around 300,000 enjoy a wide variety of Australian music and interactive activities.

Live N Local: 5-11 February 2012
The Live N Local program will offer a mammoth week of local bands at local venues. The hugely popular program provides a platform for local musicians from all genres to join the week of festivities. In order to be eligible to play in the Live N Local program, at least one of your members must live, work or study in the City of Port Phillip. The 2012 Live N Local program will have more opportunities than ever for community participation with an increased program and all new places to play.

New Music Stage: Festival Sunday, 12 February 2012
Hailed as one of the highlights of St Kilda Festival, the New Music Stage is back again offering the best new emerging talents a chance to play at one of Australia’s best known festivals. Ten bands will be chosen to play on the New Music Stage and the crowd favourite will win $5,000 and other cool things.

Events and Community Groups
Now is the time to talk to the Festival if you or your community group has an event or activity that you want to promote. The Festival is a great way to engage people and opportunities run throughout Live N Local as well as Festival Sunday. The City of Port Phillip offers assistance for local community groups wanting to participate through its Festival Community Grants scheme – check the website throughout September.

Information for all applicants
Applications will be considered for the New Music Stage and if eligible, the Live N Local program as well. We are now also accepting proposals for special events and expressions of interest for traders, stall holders, and children’s entertainers to be involved in next year’s festival.
