Background information on Skate Park
A History of the St Kilda Skate Park
On 28th November 2005, council agreed to develop a St Kilda Skate Park at Albert Park Reserve/Fitzroy Street. Details can be found on the 2005 meeting and agendas page. On Monday 23rd April 2007, council agreed that a ‘Notice of Decision to Grant a Planning Permit’ should be issued for building a skate park and urban plaza within Albert Park Reserve. For further info go to the 2007 meetings and agendas page.
In December 2007 the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) granted a permit for the development of the Skate Park in St Kilda. The Supreme Court returned the matter to VCAT and the case was to be heard in November 2008 but was deferred to 27 April 2009. Further information can be found on the VCAT Hearing Page.
On 18th December 2008, council agreed to withdraw the current planning application for the proposed St. Kilda Skate Park in Albert Park Reserve, and decided to commence a new process to select a site for a local skate park. The council agreed to undertake an independent assessment of eight sites previously assessed, and any new sites that may be identified. They appointed an independent assessor and establish a community reference group of key stakeholders and local skater representatives (including young people and 2 Councillors) to assist and provide input into the assessment process. For details refer to the December 2008 Meetings and agendas page.
