The Australian Bureau of Statistics runs National Censuses every 5 years. The most recent Census was undertaken on 7 August 2006. Results from the 2006 Census will be available mid-2007 (approximately September). For more information on the census visit the ABS Website.

The City of Port Phillip utilises the Census data to guide policy and projects within the municipality. There is a wide range of data available from the ABS, that Council access. Listed below are a range of source documents that will provide you with a clear profile of the City of Port Phillip:

	Port Phillip in Profile		Port Phillip in Profile: Our city's population, neighbourhoods and people is a major research document based on the 1996 and 2001 ABS Census data. It is the most thorough demographic analysis available about the City of Port Phillip.
	Port Phillip demographic factsheet		Tables, graphs and commentary on the City of Port Phillip from the 1991, 1996 and 2001 ABS Censuses. Includes factsheets for each of the seven neighbourhoods.
	SEIFA Index - Measuring disadvantage in Port Phillip		The SEIFA index uses Census information to measure levels of socio-economic disadvantage in any given area. It can show us which parts of Port Phillip are more disadvantaged than others.
	Demographic Tables		One page tables for selected data items from the 1996 and 2001 censuses. Each table has comparative data for each of the neighbourhoods and Port Phillip as a whole.
